Last weekend I got to photograph this beautiful growing family! When I posted on Facebook to see if any of my friends wanted to capture a special moment in their lives or updated family photos, Katie reached out to me. She had wanted some updated family photos and also some photos to capture her pregnancy with baby #2. I met Katie in high school when we were on a school trip with our choir touring Europe. She was friends with my older sister and I was the younger sister who tagged along so I could hang out with the cool older kids wherever they went. I’m sure my sister hated me always tagging along, but Katie treated me just like another friend, not an annoying younger sister, so I was thankful for that. Katie and Stephen started dating in high school and now they’re expecting their second baby! I still can’t believe how crazy quick life can move sometimes!
Katie and Stephen were natural pros at posing and made my job as a photographer so much easier. Before I had even turned my camera on them, they were already set up in the perfect family pose! It kept the session moving along and allowed me to focus on getting Grayson to look at the camera - if you have any tips or tricks to get a toddler to look at the camera on demand, please let me know!
Since I was using this session as a portfolio builder, Katie and Stephen were kind enough to let me have free reign when it came to location. I chose a new place in Manassas Battlefield Park because there are so many under-explored areas that have such beautiful scenery! And I’m so glad I chose the New York Monuments – there was the perfect amount of greenery and wide open wheat fields. I can’t wait to keep exploring more of the Battlefield – there’s so much to offer if you’re looking for any type of outdoor setting!
The forecast called for late afternoon storms so we moved our session up an hour to take advantage of drier weather and it worked out (almost) perfectly. The rain held off, but the humidity was HIGH… but you can’t even tell because Katie and Stephen didn’t show any signs that they were suffering from the humidity! (Although we did agree that our next session will need to take place when it’s much cooler out.)
Enjoy!
I honestly didn't pose either of these shots - I wasn't lying when I said they were naturals!
